This feeling you can’t describe

I think every astrologer is going to recognize what I’m about to say. Practising astrology as if it be the eternal truth about someone is a sin, but all astrologers have one feeling in common: they feel like they know a person by looking at their natal chart at a level that is different knowing the person themselves. It gives words to the things the individuals themselves can’t express (sometimes embarassed to express). Somehow I feel there is great beauty in even attempting such a thing. I believe in astrology as a tool or I wouldn’t practise it, but if even a percentage of people would have the same mindset as the astrologer, so much power can be unleashed from that mindset. To me, it’s almost like ‘the next step’ on the evolutionary ladder. Not to practise astrology in specific, but to try and understand what it teaches: to understand what is not causal. What can’t be explained in simple terms of zero’s and one’s: the human being. The difference between psychology and modern astrology is reasonably easy to distinguish. In psychology a client will tell you their problems, upon which you judge their state of mind on your own accordingly. What psychology misses, and what astrology does have, is the psychologists mirror image. I believe the best psychologists are those that are able to question their own judgement over and over again. Even in consultation, an astrologer is constantly confronted with themselves. Why did they come this judgement, have they thought it over well enough, what kind of feelings did they have at the time of judgement? I have decided in the 14 years that I’ve practised astrology, that it may be the art of intellectuals and new age types, but it’s definitely a method that allows a greater understanding than any I’ve grown familiar with through regular education. I know this is both a burden and a blessing and for some a responsibility that is probably too big for them, but when used correctly there is no limit to what it can do in contrary to already defined patterns of thought.

Day rating experiment continued: January 2009

The gravity point for January was the last week. In this last week I had Tr. Mars square Pluto and Tr. Mercury square Pluto. While it usually means a lot of emotional upheaval, this time it was a time of setbacks, obstructions and uncertainty. I have to say January was a really peaceful month for me in comparison to December 2008. I marked only 3 “B” days, the rest was either N for Neutral or G for Good. February is apparently going to be awesome, because I marked only 1 or 2 as “B”. I’m a little weary, judging from what I’m supposed to be doing in February this would seem too good to be true. Perhaps a time where I will need to revise the experiment for the first time?

I’m pretty sure I will need to start adjusting my “Neutral’s” and “Good’s”  though. Right now I’m assessing “Good” as nothing bad happens, while “neutral” is small annoyances nothing major. How Capricorn ™ of me. Maybe I just need a 4th category: A for Awesome.

My car lights broke down on the day Sun squared Pluto, which I found rather funny. The dark lord of the underworld blinds the sun, there you go.

Traditional astrology

I have been delving into more traditional literature of astrology lately. I’m absolutely fascinated! It also addresses one of my weak points as an astrologer: including the nature of the signs. Since traditional astrology places high value on Essential Dignities, maybe it will have a lasting effect so I can start to include it in my interpretations more easily. Traditional and modern are two completely different fields of play, but I’m hoping one will inspire me to include it in the other. I also love the huge amounts of information on the actual usage of Arabic parts; lot of fortune, lot of marriage, lot of (…). In addition, it’s a beautiful read. Expect more about traditional astrology on this site in the future.

Venus clearly visible in the nightsky

The planet of Venus is currently very clearly visible in the nightsky and will continue to do so for the rest of this month. You can see her when you face the south-west. Astrologically, Venus is beginning her trip in Pisces.

Graphic depiction of natal charts

Next to interpeting charts and blogging about astrology I also create graphic depictions of natal charts when I find the time. They are wallpapers that can be used on your desktop. Visit the art gallery.
