Happy Solar Return to me!

To astrologers, the birthday also represents a new astrological year. For this the Solar Return is used. This is the exact time the position of the Sun returns to the natal position. A chart is drawn up from that moment to see in the year ahead. As it’s almost my 27th birthday I decided to interpret my Solar Return for this coming year (aug 2008 – aug 2009). As you will understand I can’t publish everything I know, as some of the information is too sensitive.

How to interpret a solar return
When it comes to Solar Returns the following things are important on your checklist:

  • More than 3 personal planets in the elements/houses of the solar return chart.
  • Aspect patterns in the solar return chart, including unaspected planets.
  • Retrograde planets (esp. personal planets).
  • The position of Chiron. “Where you can no longer go on like you did in previous years”.
  • Applied horary rules: applying/ separating aspects and critical degrees.
  • Planets in the houses of the solar return chart.
  • Eclipses: danger when falling in an angular house of the solar return chart.
  • The solar return chart in relation to the radix: solar cusps in radix houses.
  • Repetition of radix aspects in the solar return chart.
  • Cross ASC/MC axis aspects from / to Solar and Radix.

When it comes to my solar return there’s quite a few changes when it comes to financial matters (Stellium Venus/Mercury/Mars in Solar II). Either increasing or decreasing, making large investments and so on. More evidence for this is the cross connection S. cusp II falling in R. house 8 and vice versa.

Personal success and wellbeing is also highlighted in this year by various elements in the chart. An example is Sun/Moon/Saturn in house I of the Solar chart. I’m by nature an invidual ruled by Saturn (R. Cap ASC, R. Moon cnj Saturn), so I’m not expecting the depressing results most books speak of when describing Solar Saturn in the first house. I’m of course not blind to Neptune and Chiron in the house of Work (6). Cross axis aspects from/to the MC show interesting results; let’s leave it at that.

Another strong connection is found between the houses 3 and 9. It is good for travelling, contact with foreigners, communciation media like the internet, writing, teaching etc. When the subject is love there are some possibilities, though from the analysis I did earlier this year I should not expect anything until further in 2009. However, there are some elements in the solar chart that indicate disappointment once again. I can’t exactly get excited reading this chart for this subject. I’ve also got my eye on the total Solar Eclipse that’s going to fall on my radix Mars in July 2009, which is a critical planet to my birth chart anyways since the degree is Anaretic*. My Mars falls in the relationship house: 7.

* Anaretic is the 29th degree of a sign

A horary chart to share

I recently calculated this chart because I wanted to know that something I did would influence the outcome of a situation. I can’t really publish any absolute details, but the following chart was calculated:

Horary 2008-08-21

Horary 2008-08-21

I use Regiomontanus for horaries, as well as only classical planets.

So how is it interpreted?
The question has something to do with ‘an authority of mine knowing the answer to a question’. When I thought of the question, I decided that I was going to use the 3rd of the 10th house. “Communication of the Authority”. Later on, I found the answer in another corner of this Horary, but for now let’s establish the significators.

My significators are Jupiter R, Moon, since if the astrologer asks a question him/herself they will fall into the first house, which is ruled by Saggitarius in this case and of course you’ll know Saggitarius is ruled by Jupiter.

The significatiors for the question are Venus, Mars and Mercury. Venus we derive by looking at the sign of the cusp of the 10th house, which is Libra (and is ruled by Venus). Mars we derive by looking at the 3rd of the 10th house, which is the 12th. Mercury is the natural subject ruler and thus a cosignificator of the question.

Before we start interpreting, I might mention that I’ve found that a good indicator of the right planets is usually also found by looking at ‘which planets fall into the same degree as the nodes’. Often, when this is the case, they will confirm they are the right planets as significators.

We can see a conjunction applying from Mercury to Venus, which is something very positive. To me that says the authority knows the answer to the question. Whether I’ll be happy about it (in the long run) I don’t know, my own significator is Retrograde. The advice: lay back and see, but it could also mean ones position is weak. Perhaps it is both.

The moon is making great aspects, so I won’t have to worry about that.

Mars is an odd one. There are no major aspects, minor aspects also don’t come up with anything. This was initially the starting point of my investigation (ruler 3rd of the 10th = 12). I can only come up with one thing: Mercury is going to come up with the answer, which may mean it’s an aided answer.

I’ve also looked at some fixed stars, luckily there were only good things to report there as well. My significator Jupiter is connected to Ascella (a beneficial star). The moon is connected to Al Pherg, another beneficial star. I have not found any information on Kelb Alrai, the star connected in parallel to Mercury.

My conclusion is that for the short term, we’re definitely alright, though I may not be happy with the answer in the long run. Secondly, the answer that’s going to come from “the authority” in this case, may be aided/guided by a second party. This could very well make sense.

Graphic depiction of natal charts

Next to interpeting charts and blogging about astrology I also create graphic depictions of natal charts when I find the time. They are wallpapers that can be used on your desktop. Visit the art gallery.
